Rex (Ajax)

1/16/2010

Meet Ajax! What a sweetheart. Imagine letting your female have puppies and then turning them in to the shelter. We don't have much patience with people like that. Anyway, Ajax is in a much better place now. He's here with us.

Ajax is a 3-month old black brushcoat baby. He may be a mix or perhaps just badly bred. Whichever, he's a handsome little guy. He has a beautiful shiny black coat. Ajax weighs 25 lbs. He loves his crate and knows how to walk on a leash. He's very smart. So far, he's had no accidents in the house.

Ajax will be neutered and microchipped in about a month.

Ajax needs to grow up in his own forever home. Please think about adopting Ajax if you are looking to add a 4-legged friend to your family. He will give you lots of love and affection.

2/20/2010: The day finally came when Rex could join his family - Stacey and Lilly. It took a few minutes for them to remember each other, but then they were playing together and taking each other's toys. Lilly might have been a little protective of Stacey, but she'll be fine, I'm sure.

2/21/2010: Well, Rex is adapting fine.  I think Lilly is a bit jealous.  She constantly wants my attention.  They have played and fought over toys, run around the back yard, explored the back yard.  Rex wolfs his food down, kind of scares me but then I have to put him behind the dog gate to let Lilly finish.  She did not growl at him when he came near her while she was eating but I got him away quickly.  They are sharing the same water bowl just fine. I put the Kuranda bed out and he took to it immediately even Lilly got on it for a few minutes.  I had to move it to the side of the room because they run around the sofa and would have bumped into it.  Rex sleeps on it in the day time.  I think he would have slept on it last night but I put him in the bed and he stayed all night, but wiggled and squirmed a lot.  Lilly got as close to me as possible.  He was not able to jump up on the bed.  Mine is a little high but he will get there I'm sure.  He still has not gotten on the sofa but I bet he will eventually. I went out on my deck as it was so beautiful yesterday and they both laid down for a while in the sun.  I think they will love it once the weather gets better.  Rex had no trouble finding and using the dog door. Pictures later. Stacey

2/24/2010: Lilly is still so jealous.  She doesn't even like Rex near me.  She growled at him today but he is so sweet he doesn't even realize it.  They play hard together usually over toys.  I did find two of the ones Lilly hid in the back yard but not the third or the bone.  I put Rex up on the sofa beside me and Lilly on the other side and they both slept for a while.  He still doesn't try to get on the sofa.  We are having to contend with the coyotes or foxes howling every night.  It wakes them up and they want to go tearing outside.  They cornered an opossum Sunday morning who played dead until I got them inside.  I think the opossum was after the bird seed on the ground.  Haven't seen it the last two days.  They both love going for walks down the street and do spend a good bit of time out in the back yard.

3/10/2010: Oh no...they are absolutely the sweetest dogs in the world.  Rex has picked up Lilly's habit of reaching out with the paw when you stop petting him. The house is usually a mess when I get home from work, chewed sticks, pine cones, daffodil stems in the house; sofa cushions askew.  Still missing toys, buying bigger ones that are harder to bury.  They really take advantage of the back yard, chase squirrels and doves away, run all over the place, and they dig (boohoo).  They sleep with me and I have finally gotten Lilly to give me a little more room.  Rex is all over the bed, changes positions all night long but occasionally they curl up together.  Rex gets on the sofa now but still cannot jump up on the bed so when he jumps off during the night he then sleeps in the chair in my bedroom.  The nice thing is that they get so much exercise I don't have to walk them as often, they don't expect it.  That's bad for me because I don't get the exercise.  We're having a ball !!!!
