Lilly

12/20/09: This is Lilly and what a sweethert she is. Lilly was found cold, hungry, and with hardly any hair by a family who really would have liked to have kept her, but with their 5 Pugs, they just couldn't. We just got Lilly yesterday, so we don't know too much about her except that she's very well behaved, very sweet, likes her crate, and loves this pink sweater that her Aunt Beth gave her. With hardly any hair, she was cold!

Lilly will see the doctor tomorrow afternoon so check back to see how she's doing.

12/21/09: Great news today. No heartworms and no mange. Yea!! She does have a serious skin infection, but she's on the right medication and we'll get that cleared up. She'll be beautiful in no time. Lilly was excellent with the doctor and she's getting along great with our guys. Somebody will get a wonderful pet when they adopt Miss Lilly. Doc thinks she's not much over a year old, and she's crate trained. She'll be spayed and have her eyes fixed as soon as she's a little healthier. Here she is with the doctor this afternoon.

She's real concerned, isn't she? She's sleeping while she's being examined. Amazing actually.
12/26/09: This girl has been here less than two weeks. Would you say she's settled in? What a sweetie.

12/29/09: Little Lilly was spayed and had entropion surgery today. She's not feeling great, but she did very well. She's resting on the couch which is her favorite place to be.

1/10/10: This girl is so, so sweet. She's learning to play with toys now and with the other dogs. She's so funny. She does have food issues with the other dogs, so she eats in her crate. Nothing with people, though, and no issues with toys/bones - just food. I guess once you've been hungry, you never forget that.

Check out Lilly's video. Click here.

2/4/2010: We knew this sweet girl wouldn't be with us long. My goodness, she's a great dog. Lilly is in Atlanta with her new mom, Stacey. She'll be joined soon by Rex (Ajax) who happens to be her best buddy. Pictures coming soon.

2/6/2010: Lilly is peeing and pooping fine.  She is eating some, hasn't eaten a bowlful yet but enough.  She ate some yogurt yesterday and today.  She drank a good bit of water this morning out of her bowl.  Still coughing more than I would like.  She seems in good spirits, sleeps a lot.  Doesn't like to be outside too long but it is still really cold.  She is licking her paws right now as we just got in from outside. Stacey

2/7/2010: Cindy, I am pretty much at my wits end.  Every time I think she is getting better she falls behind.  I haven't had much sleep either.  The coughing or whatever it is, is almost constant unless she is asleep.  I have been giving her half a Benadryl trying to give her a little rest.  Her nose is still running, the mucous is cloudy as it has been.  I keep thinking she is breathing that way because her nose is completely stopped up but it is not because when she is asleep she breathes fine.  She has not touched a single toy, sniffed at one I squeaked for her the other day.  She has not eaten anything this morning but drank a lot of water went out and peed.  She still will not go near the food bowl even though it is next to the water bowl.  I hope I have not created a problem by almost hand feeding her but it is the only way I can get her to eat.  I will be taking her to the vet tomorrow.  I would like to avoid using the emergency vets today as they are so expensive.  I think I can wait it out.  She got my side of the bed last night.  When she jumped up that where she sat so I gave in.  I know I slept some and she did too because there was a lot of snot on the quilt where she was sleeping and her nose was pretty caked up this morning.  She is resting quietly right now.  I gave her half a Benadryl.  Hopefully she eat something a little later after I take her out to poop.  Waiting for it to warm up a bit. Stacey

2/8/2010: Just got back from the vet.  Lungs sound good, thinks the cough will clear up.  She was very good but wanted to play with all the other dogs.  We went for another walk and she was really moving, darts around a little but walks very well on the leash.  She came in and drank a lot of water and ate her yogurt with a little food out of her bowl, yeah!!!  I think she will begin to follow me around now.  She is so close to me now on the sofa I can hardly move.  She is not coughing either.  She picked up one of her toys and brought it to the sofa but that's as far as it went.  The weather was so nice today but we're in for rain again I think.  She has not barked yet, even when this big chocolate lab was barking at everyone in the vet's office.  Have you ever heard her bark?  You remember how Raisin's bark really startled me, so loud for such a sweet little dog.  Things are looking up. Stacey

2/9/2010: All of a sudden Lilly is racing all over the living room.  I threw out some toys and she is playing with them some.  She is following me from room to room.  At first all the running made her start coughing but the last run did not.  None of the toys are keeping her interest for long, most are soft with squeakers, plus a tennis ball and a soft nylabone.  She has not chewed on the bone or ever had it in her mouth.  What did she chew on up there?  I wonder if she would like the hooves.  I don't really mind them, got used to them with Raisin.  She is eating good at her own pace but I wonder how she will be when Rex comes.  It's like all of a sudden she feels good again.  My neighbor is going to check on her the next two days.  She is pooped out on the sofa now. Stacey

2/13/2010: We have a beautiful coating of snow, about 2 inches.  It was so pretty coming down but the aftermath is always bad.  Hope to get some pictures of Lilly in the snow.  She went out in it this morning to poop, didn't seem to mind it.  Lilly survived my two days at work but not sure what will happen next week.  I hope I can get someone to come by and engage her for a while.  The other neighbor got scared when she barked at her.  I was missing two of her toys, searched high and low, finally found one buried in some pine bark nuggets under the deck.  It was a stuffed toy.  I still have not found the other one.  She is eating good, loves her walks, and loves cuddling up next to you.  She finished the antibiotics this morning but still has an occasional cough.  Guess that will just take time.  Her throat is probably still a little irritated. She can curl up into the tightest ball with her nose covered by her hind legs.  I hope to give her a bath today.  She is really stinky.  I can't wait to get Rex.  I think she will be so much happier with him here. Stacey

2/14/2010: That is the toy she buried.  She didn't love the snow but I made her go out in it.  She has really started playing.  She ran all around the yard today, dashing and darting all around me.  I know she will be so happy to have Rex around again.  He looks adorable in those pictures. Stacey

Finally the girl is well. Thank,s Stacey, for your patience. Cindy

2/17/2010: I bought Lilly a great big bone today and she took it in her mouth and walked around the house whining.  She finally went outside, buried it and I can't find it or the little snowflake stuffed toy she buried before.  She only had the bone for about an hour.  I have been all over the yard and just can't find them. Stacey

2/20/2010: This family is finally complete with the addition of little Rex.

Lilly and Rex - hey, I think we found it!!

3/10/2010: Oh no...they are absolutely the sweetest dogs in the world.  Rex has picked up Lilly's habit of reaching out with the paw when you stop petting him. The house is usually a mess when I get home from work, chewed sticks, pine cones, daffodil stems in the house; sofa cushions askew.  Still missing toys, buying bigger ones that are harder to bury.  They really take advantage of the back yard, chase squirrels and doves away, run all over the place, and they dig (boohoo).  They sleep with me and I have finally gotten Lilly to give me a little more room.  Rex is all over the bed, changes positions all night long but occasionally they curl up together.  Rex gets on the sofa now but still cannot jump up on the bed so when he jumps off during the night he then sleeps in the chair in my bedroom.  The nice thing is that they get so much exercise I don't have to walk them as often, they don't expect it.  That's bad for me because I don't get the exercise.  We're having a ball !!!!
