Marci

2/6/2010: We're calling this pretty little girl Marci. She had no name when she came to us and Marci kind of fits her. She's a little thing - short and compact - has a ton of wrinkles and a very black mask. She is a red brushcoat. Marci has obviously been mistreated. She is cautious when being touched, but she's getting better about that. She's only been here since Wednesday, so she's making great progress. She's afraid of loud noises. We think Marci would do best in a relatively quiet home without a lot of commotion. She loves her crate. It's a safe haven for her.

Marci will see the doctor on Monday. We'll post more after that visit.

2/8/2010: Didn't get good news from the doctor. Marci has heartworm disease so we will begin treatment on 2/22/2010. Other than that, she's a healthy girl, but as you probably know, treating for heartworm disease is a risky thing. Thank goodness she is so laid back and calm. This will help tremendously with her recovery. Marci won't be ready for adoption for at least two months.

4/10/2010: This sweet girl is adjusting to her new home in Hernando MS. She's trying really hard and her new Pei friend, Mr. Buddy Love, is helping a lot. Marci was very afraid when we first arrived at Russell's house, but as soon as she saw Buddy, her tail went up and immediately she was more comfortable. She wagged her tail many times while we were there. Before we left, though, she retreated to a safe place in the house by herself. I felt bad leaving her, but I know she'll learn to love Russell. This is a great home for her - it's quiet and calm and has a wonderful outdoor space where she and Buddy can play or lounge around, whichever they prefer.

6/27/2010: Well, it's been 2.5 months and Marci still has good days and bad days. Most days she's a happy girl until around lunch time, then she starts to retreat into her own little world. But Russell says there are flashes of her behavior that give him hope that one day she'll overcome her anxieties. Being with Russell is good for her; he is so patient and loving toward her. She knows it, too, even though sometimes it's hard for her to show it. Buddy and Grace are her pals and are helping her 'let her hair down.' We would give anything to know what happened to her in her previous life to make her so afraid.
