4/12/08: This pretty girl is Lexie. She's a blue horsecoat with a very sweet disposition. She loves people and she like male dogs. We don't know how she is with females yet, but we'll test her soon. Lexie is in love with Jules (see picture below). Lexie is crate trained, vaccinated and on heartworm preventive. She will be spayed and have her eyes fixed in a couple weeks; then she'll be ready for a new home.
4/19/08: Lexie was spayed and had her eyes fixed today. She's not feeling very chipper, but I'm sure she'll feel much better tomorrow. Lexie is a funny girl - she hops like a kangaroo. Lexie is very social and loves being around people. Lexie with loves to play with other dogs.
Lexie is an absolute sweetheart. We’ve only had her for four days, and
she has really come out of her shell. She was initially very shy and
aloof, but was instantly most comfortable with our two-year-old daughter!
After she figured out the home, she settled in readily. She gets along
with our rescued Dutch Shepherd as if they’ve been together for years.
They don’t play much, but peacefully coexist and “hang out” together. She
seems to look to him for some guidance and often mimics what he does
like both of them wrapping themselves around the bottom of my computer
chair and going to sleep!
Our biggest initial challenge was walking on a lead. This was a new
experience for Lexie, but she is adapting quickly. She lacked in
confidence, ran from the leash, didn’t want to leave the house, and was
generally unsure. This morning, however, she came and got me, walked to
the front door and pawed it, looking back at me. She followed me to get
the leash and stood there wagging her tail while I clipped it on. She
quickly hopped down the stairs and we walked a little over a quarter-mile!
This was a huge step, and we’re very proud of her. It is obvious that
her confidence is slowly building and it is wonderful to watch. She seems
to be housetrained or else she has quickly housetrained herself. No
accidents, and as I said, she lets us know when she needs to go outside.
She is used to being crated at night and during the day when we are not
home, but she’d rather be out with us! We’ve even left her free in the house for brief
trips away, and she behaved beautifully.
She is becoming more playful and affectionate by the day and she
appreciates (and initiates!) both head and body rubs. She will gladly paw
at you to let you know she’s not yet had enough loving.
Lexie is a fantastic eater and shows no sign of food aggression. She
enjoys lamb and rice snacks as well as Milkbones and seems eager to
please. She has been a real delight to have in our home. C.J., Brooke, Gracie and Rahner
Isn't she beautiful???
6/3/08: Oh, I wish I could have gotten video tonight. Lexie started chasing
Rahner all around the house after Gracie went to sleep. It was truly one
of the funniest things I have EVER seen. This went on for about 15
minutes, they were just immersed in wide-open romping, running down the
hallway and back, and in circles around the dining room and living room.
I had to pause a movie we were watching and I just sat there and laughed.
I've never seen anything like it. Hysterical. Then they both crashed
and
took a nap. It was awesome. Christopher

6/14/08: This beautiful girl left today for her new home in NC. She has a new brother; his name is Freddie. Seth and Stephanie adopted Freddie from us five years ago. It was a little rocky at first, but after a walk, Freddie and Lexie were doing okay together. We know they'll become fast friends given a little tme. Thanks, Seth and Stephanie, for giving Lexie the second chance she certainly deserves.
7/20/08: Every thing is going well. We had bathnight a couple
weeks ago (neither she nor Freddie have the normal smelly dog
smell.) It went fine. Both are good in the tub and Lexie is
good to have her ears cleaned. They are still chasing each other
around the house. Lexie starts it most of the time. She is the
nosiest dog - worse than Freddie. If I am doing anything or
get up to go to another room, she follows and so does Freddie.
She has to know what I have and smells everything. She is so
funny. She does well when we have friends over - no barking.
She's still a little shy around men, but she's getting better.
This weekend we're going to take a trip to my parents' house.
Freddie loves going; I'm sure Lexie will, too. Stephanie
10/14/08: Hello Cindy, Thought I would drop a note to say hi
and send you a few pics to. Lexie is doing fine and so is Freddie.
We had to take Lexie to the vet a few weeks ago. She had an
ear infection. She had so much goop in her ear, we thought it
was more than normal. It turned out she did have an infection.
We got some eardrops for her for 10 days and now she is all
healed up. Nothing major, she did fine. We have taken them to
my parents house a couple of times and they really have a good
time. They enjoy walking around the woods and enjoy all the
smells. I have attaches a couple of pics where they are at my
grandmothers. The like looking out windows and trying to see
what my mother is eating. Also is one of Lexie sleeping in our
round chair. She really likes that chair.
Well I just wanted to say hi and keep in touch. I will talk
to you later and send more pics. Thanks again. Stephanie, Seth,
Freddie and Lexie.
I don't feel too well. Please don't bother me. 12/13/08
12/21/08: Hi Cindy, hope that you are almost
ready for Christmas. I know we almost are. I just wanted to
send you a quick note and tell you that after Lexie started
feeling better, we checked her again and we found one of the
Pei spots on her hip. I don't know how we missed it the first
time but we did. It had popped by the time we found it and it
was kinda deep to so we cleaned it up and put antibiotic cream
on it. Made sure that she or Freddie didn't lick it off and
she hasn't had any more problems since then so I think that
might of been the cause of the fever. It might have ruptured
and gotten a little infected before we saw it. She hasn't had
any more problems since then, I sure hope it isn't Shar-Pei
fever.
They both got baths this past weekend and clean dog beds to.
It was that time again. It isn't their favorite time but they
did fine anyway. We are going to Morganton to see my family
on Christmas Eve after I get off of work and we will be taking
the dogs with us. Everyone down there loves to see them. They
have so much fun with everyone, more people there to get attention
from then just the two of us at home. They love attention almost
as much as food. HAHA! Will be home Christmas afternoon to spend
time with Seth's family who are coming in for the weekend and
I have to go back to work on Friday. Not fun but hey that's
work I guess.
Well I just wanted to say Hi and thanks for your help when we
called about Lexie. We appreciate it so much! Thank you again.
I have attached a pic of Freddie and Lexie piled up on the couch.
I will have to try to get some of them around the tree and my
parents house. If they will sit still. HAHA.
Merry Christmas and thank you again,
Seth, Stephanie, Freddie and Lexie
12/21/08: I'm all better now!
1/30/09: Freddie has a new sister (updates
are on her page ). Her name is Lexie. These pictures are too
cute not to post both places.
Lexie decided to take over Freddie's bed last
night and call it her own, and when she does that, Freddie
normally just goes and gets on her bed. Last night he had
a different idea. He moved her over and made space for him
on the bed with her. It's so cute so see them snuggled together.
They stayed that way for the whole night as far as I know.
They were that way this morning when we got up. So sweet!
They are both doing well. We are going to my parents' this
weekend, so they will have a fun trip down there. Just wanted
to say hi and share the pics. Hope all is going well with
you. Take care and thanks again so much for what you do. Seth,
Stephanie, Freddie and Lexie
